Red Wing Snowstorm got its official start in a dining room in Red Wing, where a bunch of friends who were fed up and feeling helpless after the 2016 Presidential election had gotten together to drink wine and write postcards to congress members. It felt so good to be doing something, that we decided to use a Facebook group to try to connect with others in our community who also wanted to stop feeling helpless and try to make a difference. Our idea was to create a safe space where we could share information about marches, postcard writing parties, etc. This website is the public face of that Facebook group, that anyone can access.
Our group name was born of the derogatory name that the felon’s supporters used to describe liberal-minded voters whom they view as weak and fragile. As Minnesotans, we understand that snowflakes aren’t as weak or fragile as they seem. Snowflakes, when they come en masse, can create a powerful storm. Rumor has it, we are a powerful, subversive force in the community.
